Subtitle: Purpose And Method In Editing Tweets

I’ve talked about editing one time before, but not in a sense for maximizing impact.  Just a moment ago, I edited a ‘tweet’ to make it more to the point and retweetable. Here’s the tweet:

@MantakChia Hi, I thought it would be great if you used #nei kung or #chi kung or #bonemarrow for Twitter search, so others can find you easily under that hashtag @afurth

Here is the final cut:

Mantak Chia

My thinking:

  • ‘Hi, I thought” can be more direct by “thought:”
  • “it would be great if you used” can be shortened to “would be great if U
  • Took out the “or” between hashtags, left one “or” to communicate that there’s a choice and I’m not stating to use all
  • Removed “search” and “hashtag” as I felt they were already redundant and present already in topic.

As you can see, there is purpose and method to editing.  With a little practice you will see the art behind it.

UPDATE 11/21/09 1:31pm:
Talk about editing…I just edited this whole post.
