Do you realize that we are the reason you “make” a living?
Your passion, your ideas, your marketing skills…that’s all just a bonus at the end of the day. Your services solve our problems. We are the reasons for your success. Your fans, your tribes, your family. However, you have to listen in order to discover how we can make you successful. Trust me, we have no problem telling you how to make your product or services a success. Everything else you can do just adds fuel to the fire.
So what does this have to do with social media? Well, for starters you shouldn’t just elicit conversations, you should RESPOND to them. Social media is where we’re telling you how to be more successful, lucrative, or whatever it is you hope your services will allow you to be. We do it everyday, without pay, without schwag, and without any incentives because we genuinely want to help you. Social media is where the conversations for success are happening. This is where the news is happening. THIS IS WHERE YOUR SUCCESS CAN HAPPEN.
WE are your next big idea because in this space, WE control the content. WE decide what’s popular. And WE run this town!

Dear Hermano Louis,
This is so dead on correct, the true power and essence of social media. The old model was this: companies controls and pushes out everything (product, marketing, distribution) and customer purchases but is mostly passive (unless they have to scream at customer services).
New model is this: social media is a two-way street. Companies still push out, but now consumer pushes back. Consumer can create buzz and events and doesn’t need company. This can be scary for the companies that still believe in this illusion of control. They better understand it soon.

Excellent post, thanks for sharing! Corps are still pushing and pushing…and some agencies are still pushing them to push. It’s that commission revenue stream thing. Important to not lose sight of the give and take, pull in as well as push out. In the case of social media it’s allow in.
Great point, esp as the Latino population eats up social media.
The marketplace still needs to recognize 1) rise of the networked or “wired” culture, 2) Latino population reaching critical mass, esp among the wired and 3) the spending power and influence of the Latino market.
I feel like a large part of our job as the #Latism community is to connect those dots for others and educate, educate, educate about those connections.

Social media is definitely an extension of our human need for community and relationships. With this technology we can communicate, form groups, and control content all in the comfort of out home and office. Companies should take note that the citizens do provide elements you need to build a respectable presence, so treat us well.
